TRIciclo
Why TRIciclo? Because it's an opportunty, because the savings are important but shouldn't impose limitations, because substituting the machine park every year is not necessary, because the computer science can be ecological.
Because TRIciclo is:
-
Adoption of free technologies using FLOSS systems
-
Hardware, LAN e obsolete personal computers recycle
-
Utilization of a renewable energy source like the photovoltaic (coming soon)
-
Technology innovation and educational paths on GNU/Linux
The project is aimed to schools of every order, to universities, research consortiums, outfits and Public Administration over the national territory.
The main advantages of the TRIciclo project can be divided into three categories:
-
Economical: personal computers and, generally, hardware reuse, deny the continue renewal of the machine park in the short to medium term, allowing a considerable economical saving
-
Cultural and technological: solutions included within the project allow a cultural level growth of the consumers, in a way that's directly proportional to the technological evolution of the existing informative infrastructure, infused by FLOSS. The theoretical/practical educational path pose the needed ground for learning the GNU/Linux system
-
Ecological: discarded hardware is viewed as special garbage and so require long and expensive disposal procedures. Often, laws about this topic aren't respected and chemical products like lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chrome are spread in the environment. Reuse avoids these issues and allow a considerable energetic saving. The project, when applicable, includes a photovoltaic system to power the whole infrastructure, basically zero-ing the ambient impact and electrical consumes.
The first phase consists in acquiring technical information about the existing hardware and network type. Follows a study over the acquired data in order to elaborate a reorganization plan of the informative resources that allow the obsolete hardware with FLOSS solutions.
The last phase consists in planning a group educational path that will allow the new infrastructure's customers to know its potentials and to operate autonomously in order to reach their goals.
